Twins...vaginal vs. c-section?

i'm 22 weeks prego with twins. my doc said that if they are both head down at the time i could possibly deliver vaginally, but there is a high possibility that i would have to have an emergency c-section for baby 2 after baby 1 comes out. should i just go ahead and have the c-section since the chances are so high that i would have to have one anyway? i've heard that emergency c-sections are worse that planned ones. my doctor is already leaning toward c-section anyway. how bad is a planned c-section? how bad is the recovery? i'm just nervous and scared because i don't know what to expect. this is my first pregnancy. thanks!

Twins...vaginal vs. c-section?
I'm all for deliverying vaginally, but if already there's a chance that you might have an emergency c-section, why not go ahead and have both of them via c-section? Doctors hate emergency c-sections cause as you can imagine its all rush rush to get the baby out. Just opt for the elective one, where everyone can go in relaxed and do it in a relaxed environment. I dont know about you, but I wouldnt want to feel the pain of giving birth vaginally, then still having to go through the whole c-section thing again.
Reply:I have had 3 C-sections due to medical complications ( Pre-eclampsia) and yes you are sore and the recovery time is much greater. I was still able to look after my baby ( just a little slower doing things) I am 4 weeks post my last C section and am now fine and luckily suffered no ill effects. Do more research and do whats in the best interest of you and your babies. Good Luck.
Reply:I had 2 sections with both my children because they were breech. They were planned and I had more say about what went on and such. I would definitely opt for the section if I were you. A family friend went through labor, pushed for several hours and then was sent back for an emergency section and was so sore in both places. She recovered, but said the hustle and bustle of the emergency situation was just chaotic.

God bless in whatever decision you make!
Reply:I have a 3 year old and 9 month old twins and both were delivered via c-section.

With my first, we knew he was going to be big, but it's not really a reason just to go ahead and have a c-section. So I labored on my own and pushed for 3 hours, with no luck. We decided that the best thing to do was a c-section. My son came out weighing 9 lbs 14 oz and he was wedged in the birth canal. The recovery was not bad. For 2 weeks after the surgery, I had to sit down very slow because it was a bit uncomfortable. After the 3rd week, I was fine. All in all, it wasn't that bad.

With my twins, I wanted to do a vaginal delivery. Because I had a previous c-section, going for a vaginal delivery had serious risks. But my doctor was allowing me to do so as long as the twins were both head down. But in the end, I decided to go ahead and have a c-section.

The recover then was not that bad. I was up and about and didn't even have go slowly with sitting up and down, unlike the first time. Recovery was better the second time around. Now I don't know if this is the case because it was my 2nd.

With twins, you really never know what's going to happen because being pregnant with twins, you are already considered high-risk. But should you go to the end without urgency and complication, I would go for a vaginal delivery. C-section is a major abdominal surgery so there is a longer recovery time. Having twins, you will need all your strength full on right away unless you have help lined up.

Plan for at least a month of having somene with you. Having a baby for the first time is a major adjustment, and having 2 for the first time is a HECK of a MAJOR adjustment.

Good luck to you!
Reply:I had an emergency c-section on my first. I was scared also. There was a flurry of activity around me when the dr said 'now'. I think that was what scared me the most. I told my nurse that I was scared and she was really good at telling me what was going to happen. She told me who would be in to do what, and it happened like she said. The recovery was not that bad. It was just the pain from the incision site that was the worst.
Reply:Well I don't want to scare you but recovery from a c-section is rough. I had one with my son. But if you have to have one anyway you might as well have it for both of them. It'll be a lot faster than pushing one out and having the other one c-section.
Reply:I had an emergency c-section and I've got to say it wasn't that bad... I only bled for 2 weeks the docter cleaned me out...I was on the pain medication for 1 week...I could still get up and do things to a point... I'm not saying it's the best but it's also not the worst thing I've heard that the planned ones are better.... If your having two you might just want to deliver them c-section anyways why deliver one vaginal if you might have to do surgery anyways and just in case somthing happens your already in surgery...
Reply:I know I was upset when I tried to deliver my first vaginally and ended up with a c-section after all that work. But neither the emergency or the planed were all that bad. I am scared of shots so you know it was not that bad. Recovery is a couple weeks before you are up to getting out and about but it really was not as bad as I expected.
Reply:hi there i had an emergancey c section with my first and a planned with my second i think go for a planned c section as it will be alot less stress on both you and the babies
Reply:i had a schedule c-section because my baby was breech. A planned c-section is not bad at all because your doctor and you can discuss more about what to do when it comes down to a c-section. The recovery was painful but they will give you meds for it..basically after the csection you will have to take it easy and relax for a few days.
